How to Cook Up a Colorful Kitchen
By Amanda Bashore of Your Home Supply
If you are looking for ways to cook up a colorful kitchen, take a look first at what kind of floor plan you have. Is your kitchen designed with a sought-after open floor plan that is popular in modern design today? If so, you may want to consider designing a new kitchen that will flow into your other living spaces; or, better yet, set the tone of the design for the rest of your home. Because the kitchen can be the pivotal selling point of any home, select timeless upgrades that will wow visitors for years to come. Dark wood cabinetry and granite counter tops will never go out of style. If you decide to go with granite, be bold with your selection: a granite counter can stand as a piece of art and anchor the design of the room. If you select a piece of granite with a lot of movement and color, you can select accent colors from the tones in the granite. Accent colors do not have to be limited to wall color and the backsplash. Color can also be brought in with light fixtures, dinnerware, and furniture. If you are scared to work with color, consider using the same bold color in a few areas of the room to create a theme; this will allow your bold selection to be more balanced around the kitchen space. If granite counters and dark cabinetry seem a bit comfortable for your tastes, feel free to mix things up a bit with modern styles and pieces. Take a risk with installing a concrete countertop. If you want to add extra value to your kitchen, go green with your selections: many buyers are looking for eco-friendly elements in remodeled designs. Invest in bamboo flooring and cabinets for that green element to your design. You can even induce a touch of color in your kitchen appliances. Kitchens of yesteryear were originally furnished with black or white appliances. In the 21st century stainless steel appliances took center stage, serving as a new contemporary neutral for modern kitchens to be designed around. Stainless steel has now evolved into other finishes, including nickel. Kitchen appliances are not limited to metal finishes; you can even find matching appliances in red and blue, creating a bold statement in your kitchen space. Once you have selected flooring, cabinetries, and appliances for the space, have fun accenting the rest of the room with bold accessories. Even if your walls are painted a neutral tone such as cream or white, accent the ceiling with a bold color choice. If your kitchen is an open space that can be seen throughout most of the floor, you still want it to be conducive to the rooms it is attached to. Bear in mind that as you design your new colorful kitchen, make practical choices when deciding placement of work areas in the kitchen. Carefully decide how you want the stove to relate to the sink and the counter area. You will want to have a comfortable and efficient work flow in the space. If you have the budget and the drive, tear into your design and have fun incorporating splashes of color through out your kitchen space. If you are not sure what direction you want to take with the design, ease into it with a few small steps, such as a colorful backsplash. You can easily take colors from a backsplash and infuse them into the room with other accessories. Remember that no matter how bold your color choices are, you can keep the design grounded with darker cabinets and cabinet pulls and handles that coordinate to your appliances.
